Retirement can come too early for many people who wish and are able to remain active. Haywards Heath and District Probus Club meets each month to enjoy over a drink and lunch the company of like-minded friends. Our commitment is to encourage fellowship and camaraderie which belonging to this organisation brings.
Probus is an abbreviation of the words PROfessional and BUSiness. Probus clubs are an association of active people who have retired from their profession or business and who want to maintain a social network with others with similar interests. There are in excess of 2000 clubs in the UK and world-wide in excess of 3000 clubs and the numbers continue to grow. Although these clubs were initially for men, a number of ladies and mixed groups have since been set up. Following our recent AGM we decided to be a mixed club, welcoming both ladies and men.
We meet for lunch on the second Wednesday of every month. We usually have a meal and a guest speaker. Wives, partners and widows and widowers of former members are invited to our meetings in April, October and December.
We have a programme of varied additional events. These include meetings with other Probus clubs, group trips to places of interest locally or further afield and other activities such as skittles, wine tasting, bowls and theatre visits - for example, outings to Glyndebourne Opera and the Arundel Castle Open Air Theatre are annual events.
